DURAthin Veneers, Start to Finish

August 9th, 2010 | Posted in Blog | No Comments

Have you ever wondered how DURAthin Veneers are made?  With a recently completed case, we will show you the process, step by step.

Step One: Determining if the case is a good DURAthin case.  For this, you will need the patient’s Pre-op model and a DURAthin wax-up (which can be provided by the lab).

Step Two: The dies are swaged with very thin platinum foil, which will hold it’s shape in the oven, while allowing the technician to layer directly over the teeth.  An incisal edge matrix is made from the patient’s temp model to show just how much porcelain will be added incisally.

Step Three: A porcelain wash is then applied over the platinum foil as a base for the veneers.  The porcelain is then carefully layered using the patient’s natural tooth color and various colors of porcelain to achieve the to have the desired shade and translucency.  Along the way, the layering technique is well-documented as a reference for any future veneers the patient may want to add.

Step Four: The platinum foil is carefully removed and the veneers are ready for placement directly over the patient’s existing teeth.

Carlie’s New Smile

July 12th, 2010 | Posted in Blog | No Comments

Carlie has worked in the office part of the lab for two and a half years and has recently decided to improve her smile with DURAthin veneers.  She had two main areas of concern.  First, she was unhappy was the length and shape of her laterals.  The other concern was some yellowing composite on her central incisor from a childhood accident involving a slide . . .

Before - RightBefore - SmileBefore - Left

Carlie’s case was an ideal DURAthin case because her teeth were well aligned with no protruding teeth and a little additional thickness did not affect her bite.  DURAthins are great for patients who want to whiten or brighten their teeth, although Carlie was happy with her tooth’s natural shade.  The DURAthins were placed on Carlie’s teeth with no preparation other than removing the old composite.

Carlie loves showing off her new smile and your patient’s will too!

DURAthin Press

June 25th, 2010 | Posted in Blog | No Comments

You’ve heard of DURAthin Veneers, and now Mark Willes is excited to introduce a new line of no-prep and minimal prep veneers.  DURAthin Press Veneers are a more cost-effective alternative to traditional DURAthin veneers.  Having a more cost-effective alternative will allow more patients the option of improving their smile and still keeping their natural tooth structure.

On Stump SticksThickness

There are only a few differences between DURAthin Press Veneers and traditional DURAthin Veneers.  The kinds of cases will be the same, as well as the exclusivity of the DURAthin brand.  DURAthin Press Veneers are about four-times stronger than tradiaitonal DURAthins and are a great option if you need additional strength.  However, they are not layered veneers and some cases may not be as aesthetic as with tradtional DURAthin Veneers.  Despite that, they will still be a high-quality, beautiful, and cost-effective veneer available for patients with little to no prep on their natural teeth.  These beautiful veneers only cost $235/each (as opposed to traditional DURAthins at $350/each).

Now is a great time to talk to your patients about the newest option for DURAthin veneers!

Benefits of a Diagnostic Wax-up

February 16th, 2010 | Posted in Blog | 1 Comment

Working on a smile makeover case can be stressful.  What if the patient doesn’t like the shape, texture, and characterization of their veneers?  A diagnostic wax-up is an excellent way to help your patients see how their veneers/crowns will look in the end, before even starting preparing for the final restorations.
A wax-up allows the patient to see a 3-dimensional view of what their final veneers will actually look like; and the best part?  If they don’t like it the first time, it is much easier to change or adjust than final restorations.  It also helps you, the dentist, gain a visual understanding of what is needed in regards to tooth reduction requirements.
Our diagnostic wax-ups are always accompanied with a sil-tech matrix, perfectly designed to make the temporaries look exactly like the wax-up.  A preparation guide is also included, specifically designed to help determine how much reduction is necessary in order to gain the best result possible.

Check out these before and after photos of a diagnostic wax-up that we recently completed.  The difference is amazingly beautiful!
